Ingredients
- 2 C. water
- 2 C. peeled and cubed potatoes
- 3 T. butter or margarine
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 3 T. flour
- Red and black pepper to taste
- 3 C. milk
- 1/2 tsp. sugar
- 1 C. shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 C. cubed cooked ham
Preparation
Step 1
Bring water to a boil in large saucepan. Add potatoes and cook until tender. Drain; reserving liquid. Measure 1 cup, adding water if necessary.
Melt butter in saucepan over medium heat. Add onion; cook and stir until tender but not brown. Add flour; season with peppers. Cook 3 to 4 minutes, stirring constantly.
Gradually add reserved water and remaining ingredients to onion mixture; stir well. Simmer over low heat for 30 minutes, stirring frequently.
