MINCEMEAT PIE

Real mincemeat was a holiday tradition as we were growing up. There was nothing more disappointing to all of us than to order mincemeat pie at a restaurant and to be presented with something that had no meat.

Ingredients

  • 2 lb. beef
  • 3 lb. apples
  • raisins
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 2/3 + 1/4 c. cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. clove
  • 1/4 tsp. (scant) allspice

Preparation

Step 1

Cover the beef with salt water and cook. (Mother always used the pressure cooker and less expensive cuts of beef.) Grind up the cooked beef and the apples. Add the remainder of the ingredients. Put into a pie shell and cover with a lattice crust. Bake in a 350° oven for 45- 50 minutes.
