Lemon yogurt twists

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1c. butter
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 1/4 c. warm water
  • 1/2 c. lemon yogurt
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1 tsp. grated lemon rind
  • 1/2 c. - 1c. sugar
  • nutmeg

Preparation

Step 1

1) mix together flour and salt. cut in butter

2) dissolve yeast in water. set aside for 5 minutes until bubbly. ad yeast, egg, yogurt and rind to flour, mix well. dough will be sticky

3)wrap in wax paper and chill for 2 hours

4) roll half the dough on a lightly sugared board into an 8x16" rectangle. fold ends toward center, overlapping. sprinkle with sugar. roll again to same size and repeat. repeat a third time, ending in a rectangle

5) cut into 1x4" strips. sprinkle with nutmeg

6) twist ends into opposite directions, stretching slightly. place on lightly greased cookie sheet

7)bake at 375 for 10 -15 minutes or until lightly browned
