Caramels

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Butter or Margarine
  • 1 lb. Brown Sugar
  • 1 dash Salt
  • 1 cup Light Corn Syrup
  • 1 15 oz. Can Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 1 tsp. Vanilla

Preparation

Step 1

Melt butter or margarine in a 3 quart heavy sauce pan. Add brown sugar and salt, mix well. Stir in corn syrup, mix well.
Gradually add sweetened condensed milk, stirring constantly.
Cook over medium heat to a firm ball state (~245 degrees), 12-15 min.
Remove from heat and add vanilla. Pour into buttered 9x9 pan. Cool and cut into cubes.
For Chocolate carmels, add 2 one oz. squares of unsweetened chocolate with milk.
