Onion Rolls

Ingredients

  • 4 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons instant minced onion
  • 2 packages Rapid Rise Yeast
  • 3 tablespoons butter softened
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 3 eggs
  • Instant minced onion or poppy seeds

Preparation

Step 1

In a large bowl mix 1 1/2 cups flour,sugar,salt instant minced onion and undissolved yeast.Heat milk,water and butter until very warm. Gradually add to the dry ingredients and beat 2 minutes at medium speed. Add 2 eggs and 1/2 cup flour. Beat at high speed for 2 minutes, Stir in enough additional flour to make the dough soft. Knead on a lightly floured surface until smooth, about 4 minutes. cover and let rest 10 minutes.
Divide dough into 12 balls. Place on 2 greased cookie sheets. Flatten balls with your hand to 3 1/2 inch rounds, cover. Place 2 shallow pans on the counter and fill half way with boiling water. place cookie sheets over the pans. Let rise for 20 minutes.
With a knife cut a 1/4 inch deep x on top of each roll. Brush with remaining egg. sprinkle with instant minced onion or poppy seeds. Bake 400 for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from baking sheets: cool on wore racks.
