Ingredients
- 4 cups dry macaroni
- 4 cups milk
- 4 eggs
- 16 oz. grated cheese (Colby or cheddar)
- salt & pepper to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Boil macaroni until done (around 10 minutes). Drain and rinse with cold water. Put half in a greased 13x9x2 baking dish; sprinkle with half of the grated cheese on macaroni. Lightly sprinkle with salt & pepper. Put the rest of the noodles and cheese on top. Lightly sprinkle with salt & pepper again. In the meantime, heat the milk in a sauce pan until just scalded (little bubbles around the edge--do not boil). In a bowl, slightly beat the eggs and then slowly add the hot milk, stirring constantly to cook eggs but not curdle them. Pour this mixture over the macaroni and cheese. Bake in a 350F oven for 1 hour until bubbling and slightly brown on top. Be sure you fix plenty when you become a grandparent, it goes fast.
