Lori's Cherry Surprises

Ingredients

  • 1 cup softened margarine
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tsp. almond extract
  • bottled maraschino cherry cherries drained (save juice)

Preparation

Step 1

Cream margarine and sugar, add egg yolks, blend in flour and salt, add almond extract. chill until firm enough to handle (about 2 hours) pinch off pieces of dough with floured hands, insert cherry and cover with dough.

Bake at 325 for about 25 minutes until lightly browned.

When cool ice with
1 Tablespoon shortening
1 T. cherry juice
1 T. water
1/8 tsp. salt
1 1/3 cups powdered sugar
Melt shortening, add juice and water, beat in salt and powdered sugar until smooth, spread on top of cookies.
