FRIED PIE DOUGH

Ingredients

  • 4 cups plain flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 cup shortening (Crisco)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cup water

Preparation

Step 1

Cut shortening into flour and salt. Add egg and water. Roll small amounts in flour and roll into a thin crust for pies. Place fruit in center, seal by wetting edges with water, and cut off excess dough. Fry in 1/2 inch of hot Crisco until browned. Drain pies on brown paper bags. Avoid piling pies on top of each other. Cover during storage with paper towels.
