Macaroni and Cheese

Ingredients

  • 6 T. butter
  • 1/2 c. flour
  • 4 c. milk, warmed
  • 1 t. dry mustard
  • 1/4 t. grated nutmeg
  • 1/4 t. cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 t. salt
  • pepper to taste
  • dash hot sauce
  • dash Worchestershire sauce
  • 3 c. shredded cheddar (12 oz.)
  • 1 lb. macaroni, cooked al dente
  • 1 c. crushed potato chips
  • 5 slices crisp bacon, crumbled
  • 1/2 c. freshly grated parmesan

Preparation

Step 1

Heat oven to 350 degrees.

Melt butter in large saucepot over medium heat. Add flour and cook, stirring, for 1 minute. Whisk in the warmed milk and bring to a boil, continuing to whisk constantly. The mixture will thicken as the heat increases. Continue to stir while adding the dry mustard, cayenne, salt, pepper, hot sauce and worchestershire. Stir in the cheddar until it melts.

Pour the cheese sauce over the macaroni and add to a 3 qt. casserole dish.

Sprinkle the chips, bacon and parmesan on top and bake for 35 min.
