Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cake flour ( not self-rising)
- 3 tlbs sugar
- 2 1/2 tea baking powder
- 1/4 tea salt
- 1 stick unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
- 1/2 cup; low-fat buttermilk
- 1 large egg plus 1 large egg lightly beaten for egg wash
- 1/2 tea vanilla extract
- Fine sanding sugar for sprinkling
- OPTIONS: 1 cup Rasins or blurberries or dried cranberries
Preparation
Step 1
PREHEAT oven to 375*
LINE a baking sheet with parchment paper
WHISK flours, sugar, bakling powder and salt in large bowl
CUT butter cubed into flour mixture with a pastry cutter unmtil mixture has the texture of coarse meal
STIR in option
WHISH buttermilk, 1 egg and vanilla together and drizzle over flour mixture
STIR using fork until dough comes together and a small amount of flour remains in bowl
TURN dopugh out onto work surface and knead twice
PAT dough into a 1 inch thick round and cut into 12 wedges
Put wedges on baking sheet and brush with egg wash and sprinle with sanding sugar
Bake 22 minutes until golded brown
