Slow Cooker Anderson's Split Pea Soup

Ingredients

  • 6 cups water
  • 2 cups green split peas
  • 1 rib celery, coarsely chopped
  • 1 large carrot, chopped
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 dash ground red pepper
  • 1 bay leaf
  • salt
  • pepper
  • cayenne pepper
  • garlic powder

Preparation

Step 1

Combine water, peas, celery, carrot, onion, thyme, red pepper, and bay leaf in a slow cooker. (I sauteed onion, carrot, and celery first to add a depth of flavor) Season to taste with salt and pepper, garlic, and cayenne. Cook on low for 6 hours.
