Scalloped Tomatoes

Ingredients

  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 1/2 cups unseasoned bread cubes
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 5 cups canned tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh cracked pepper

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350°.
Grease shallow earthenware or other casserole.
Saute onion in butter until soft, but not brown.
Add bread cubes and brown sugar, stirring over low heat 3-5 minutes.
Stir in tomatoes; add seasoning.
Put prepared tomatoes in casserole and bake at 350° for 30-40 minutes or until casserole is bubbly.
