Chop Suey

Family favorite! But, put aside some time for prep! I always double (or even triple) this recipe. Great leftovers! :)

Ingredients

  • Thickening Ingredient:
  • 1/4 Cup Butter
  • 1/4 Cup Shortening
  • 3/4 lb. Diced Meat (Pork or Chicken)
  • 1 Cup Onion, diced small
  • 1 Cup Celery, diced small
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 1/8 tsp. Pepper
  • 1 Cup Hot Water
  • 1 tsp. Sugar
  • 2 tsp. Soy Sauce
  • 1/3 Cup Water
  • 2 Tbsp. Cornstarch

Preparation

Step 1

Sauteé meat in combined butter and shortening for approximately 8 minutes. Add onion and fry approximately 5 minutes. Add celery, salt, pepper and hot water. Cover and Cook for 5 minutes. Add thickening ingredient and soy sauce. Serve over rice with chow mein noodles.
