Apple-Sage Pork Roast

By

The apple/bacon topping that goes with this is terrific! Would be equally good on pork chops.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pound pork roast
  • 15 ounce can chicken broth, divided
  • 4 slices bacon
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon dried sage
  • 1 teaspoon flour
  • 2 apples, peeled and diced

Preparation

Step 1

Season roast with salt and pepper and place in a 2 or 3 quart slow cooker. Add 1/2 of the chicken broth. Cover and cook on low 8 to 10 hours. Finely chop bacon. Cook in a large skillet 10 minutes or until crisp. Drain off most of the drippings. Combine remaining chicken broth, brown sugar, vinegar, sage, and flour in a bowl; whisk to blend. Add mixture to the skillet with bacon; bring to a boil. Reduce heat some and simmer uncovered for at least 10 minutes. Add apples during the last couple of minutes and continue to cook until the sauce thickens. Serve apple topping over sliced pork.
