Butter Pound Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 c butter, softened
  • 1 tbsp shortening
  • 2 3/4 c sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tbsp warm water
  • 1 1/4 c buttermilk
  • 3 c flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Preparation

Step 1

1. Cream butter and shortening together; gradually add sugar, creaming until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
2. Dissolve baking soda in water; stir into buttermilk. Combine flour and salt, stirring well; add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Mix well after each addition. Stir in vanilla.
3. Pour batter into a greased and floured 10 inch tube pan. Bake at 325º for 90 minutes or until pick comes out clean. Cool in pan 10-15 minutes; remove from pan.
