- 1 cup cornmeal
- 2 tablespoons flour
- dash of salt
- 1 teaspoon white sugar
- 1 tablespoon shortening or butter
- 3/4 to 1 cup boiling water
- 2 tablespoons of finely minced onion (optional)
Preparation
Step 1
Mix meal, flour, salt, sugar and onion (optional). Add 3/4 cup boiling water and shortening, mix til shortening is melted. If too thick to drop by spoonful into hot grease in skillet, add a little more hot water until consistency you want.
Fry in about 1/2 inch of oil til brown on both sides, turning once. I like using an iron skillet.
