Ingredients

• 1 1/2 cups chopped dates
• 1 cup boiling water
• 1/2 cup shortening
• 1 cup sugar
• 1 tsp vanilla
• 1 egg
• 1 1/2 cup sifted flour
• 1 tsp soda
• 14 tsp salt
• 1 cup chopped walnuts

Preparation

Step 1

combine and cool dates, water

combine until fluffy shortening, sugar

add, beat well vanilla and egg

sift together; flour, soda, salt

add flour mixture alternately with dates

13 x 9 1/2 pan-well greased
