Carmels

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Land O Lakes butter
  • 1 bottle dark Karo
  • 1 can condensed milk
  • 2 cups sugar

Preparation

Step 1

Melt butter on low heat.

Add Karo while stirring and then add condensed milk and sugar.

Keep stirring until mixture boils.

****Important to keep stirring continuously.

As it boils you may check Mixture as often as you wish to see if it is ready. Usually every 15 minutes.

How to check: take a cup of cold water, add a teaspoon of the mixture into water. Let sit for about 20 seconds. Take mixture out of water with a fork to see if it holds together. When it does it is ready. Change water after testing.

When mixture is ready add a teaspoon of vanilla extract while still stirring.

****Important, have buttered pan ready before starting caramel recipe.

Pour mixture into the big pan and place in a cool or cold room or porch.

It will be ready when mixture is almost hard. It takes about 1-2 hours.

When ready, cut into pieces and wrap individually in cut rite paper. Twirl the edges of paper to keep caramels from slipping out.
