Blue Ribbon Apple Pie

Ingredients

  • Crust:
  • 2 cups flour mixed with one tsp. salt.
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • Pie Ingredients:
  • 6-8 medium tart cooking apples
  • Sugar mixture:
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 tsp. flour

Preparation

Step 1

Crust:
mix shortening, salt and flour together till crumbley.
Add water and mix. Divide into 2 disks. Roll one disk to fit bottom of pie pan.

Mix sugar, cinnamon and flour and sprinkle 1/3 of mixture in bottom of crust.

Pie:
Peel and slice apples into disk, across, not in wedges.
Put layer of apples over the sugar mixture, add another layer of apples and some of the sugar mixture and so on till apples are higher than pie pan. Saving some of the sugar mixture to sprinkle over top crust.

Bake at 425 degrees for 20 minutes and 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes.

Cool and top with ice cream if desired.
