Ingredients
- 2 cups sifted flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 beaten egg
- 2/3 cup milk

Preparation
Step 1
Sift together dry ingredients.
Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Combine egg and milk.
Add to dry ingredients.
Stir until dough follows fork around bowl.
Turn onto lightly floured board.
Knead gently with heel of hand 20 times.
Roll dough to 3/4 inch thick.
Dip biscuit cutter and flour and cut biscuits straight down with no twisting.
Place on ungreased baking sheet 3/4 inch apart.
Bake at 450° for 10 to 14 minutes or until golden brown.
