Ingredients
- 1 cup Crisco shortening
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 6 eggs (room temperature)
- 2 cups flour
- 6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips (about one small bag)
- 1 cup walnuts (chopped)
Preparation
Step 1
Beat Crisco, sugar, vanilla, and salt until smooth. Add one egg at a time and beat until smooth. Add 2 cups flour and beat until creamy. Coat chocolate chips with flour to keep them from sinking in the batter--very important. With a large spoon or spatula, stir in coated chocolate chips and nuts. Mix well. Spoon batter into a greased and floured angel food cake pan, tube pan, or bundt pan. Place in a cold oven at 325 for 1 hour. Cake is done when top is golden brown. Cracks may appear on top.
Jan’s Note: Lynn says that the cake may take longer than 1 hour to bake depending on your oven. But my cakes were done in about 50 minutes on Convection Bake. Cake is done when a toothpick or cake tester comes up clean.
