Toffee Crunch Bars

Ingredients

  • 1/4 lb. saltine crackers(about 35)
  • 2 sticks butter or margarine,
  • 1 C. firmly packed brown sugar,
  • 12 oz. chocolate chips,
  • chopped nuts. (optional)

Preparation

Step 1

Grease a 9 x 13- inch pan. Put a single layer of saltine crackers in the pan. Heat butter and sugar. Boil for 3 minutes, stirring constantly. Pour hot mixture over crackers and bake at 400º for 5 to 7 minutes. Remove from oven and, while still hot, cover with the chocolate chips and spread as quickly as they melt. You may add chopped nuts on top of the smoothed chocolate, if desired. Cool slightly, then place in refrigerator. Break into pieces and store in the refrigerator or freezer.
Makes 35 servings.
