Au Gratin Potatoes

  • 4 med peeled & sliced potatoes
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 TBSP margarine
  • 3 TBSP flour
  • 1 1/2 c milk
  • 1 1/2 c medium sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 tsp pepper



Step 1

Cover sliced potatoes with water in a 2 quart saucepan. Add salt and boil 10 minutes or until ½ way done. Drain and set aside. In a 1 quart saucepan over low heat. Add melted margarine, add flour and stir till mixture is smooth. Stir in milk slowly; stirring constantly. Continue to cook over low heat till mixture comes to a boil. Take off heat and stir in cheese and pepper. Mix till cheese is melted and blending into mixture. Put ½ of potatoes in a 2 quart casserole. Pour ½ of cheese sauce over potatoes; add remaining potatoes and cheese sauce. Cover and bake 30 minutes at 350. Remove lid and bake 10 minutes.
**goes really well with ham or roasted meat.
