Baked Pears with Lemon Cream

Ingredients

  • Baked Pears:
  • 6 pears, cored
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 6 whole cloves
  • Freshly ground nutmeg, to taste
  • Lemon Cream:
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 stick of cinnamon
  • Rind of 2 lemons, grated
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup honey

Preparation

Step 1

Baked Pears:

Preheat oven to 350 F. Place the pears in a glass baking dish, standing them upright, side by side.

In a medium-size saucepan, bring the honey, water, and cloves to a boil. Pour this mixture over the pears.

Bake until the pears are tender when pierced with a fork, about 30 minutes, depending upon the ripeness of the pears.

Remove the pears from the baking liquid. Serve warm or chilled with Lemon Cream. Top each serving with a grating of nutmeg.

Lemon Cream:

In a 1-quart saucepan, mix the cornstarch and 1/4 cup of the milk; stir until mixture is smooth. Add the remaining milk and the cinnamon. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until slightly thick.

Remove pan from heat. Stir in lemon rind, lemon juice, and honey. Remove cinnamon stick, cover, and chill. Pour over warm or chilled Baked Pears just before serving.
