Ingredients
- 5 medium-size baking apples
- Juice of 1 lemon
- 1/3 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup whole walnuts
- 1/4 cup sunflower seeds
- 1/4 tsp ground allspice
- 1/2 cup orange juice or apple juice
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 375 F. Oil a 9-by-9-inch baking pan.
Slice the apples; place in a medium-size bowl; drizzle with lemon juice and toss together with 1 tablespoon flour, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, and raisins. Set aside.
In a medium-size saucepan melt the butter and honey. Remove from the heat and stir in the oats, remaining flour, walnuts, sunflower seeds, remaining cinnamon, and allspice.
Place 1/2 of the apple mixture in the baking pan. Spread 1/2 of the oat mixture onto the apples. Repeat layers. Pour juice over the top.
Bake uncovered 35 to 40 minutes. Cover if the top begins to brown too quickly. Serve at room temperature; cut into 3-inch squares just before serving.
Apple Crisp is delicious served warm with yogurt.
