Basic Decorating Icing

Flavor and color as desired for frosting and decorating cakes and cookies.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups pure cane powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon flavoring, optional
  • Food coloring, optional

Preparation

Step 1

In large bowl, beat all ingredients at medium speed 8 to 10 minutes. Keep icing covered to prevent drying. Store in refrigerator.

Hint: Thicken with powdered sugar or thin with a few drops of water.
