Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lb ground chuck or ground round
- 1 egg
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1/2 green pepper, chopped
- 1/2 cup uncooked rolled oats
- 2 oz butter, melted
- 1 (16 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 strip bacon
- Salt and pepper to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Heat skillet over medium heat, add butter and saute onions until clear. Combine beef, egg, onion, green pepper, oats and half of tomatoes and mix well. Season with salt and pepper and shape into loaf in glass baking dish. Place strip of bacon lengthwise on top of loaf and bake, covered, at 350 F for 45 minutes. Remove, pour remaining tomatoes over top, return to oven and bake uncovered for 30-45 minutes until cooked through.
