Cook's Note:
About the name. These cookies are the surefire way to get someone to fall in love with you...or at the very least gain a serious addiction to cookies. By giving these cookies away, you may need to be prepared for a marriage proposal on the spot. I have been baking since I was a little one. I was the only girl in a house full of brothers (5 to be exact), so I quickly found my spot in the kitchen. My love affair with baking started with cookies and it is how I won dates in high school by delivering them every Sunday night to my "friends." Love would usually ensue. Now I find joy in baking them for my own 4 little ones and they are my ultimate taste testers in the quest for the perfect cookie. They say we got it years ago so it is about time to share it.
Everyone can make a chocolate chip cookie and it is usually involves some type of creaming of the butter and sugars. This is what makes mine unique (and ridiculously sinful). Everything is done in one glorious pan - the saucepan. You melt the butter completely and then add the sugars. The aroma that comes from the sugars as they dissolve into the butter is heavenly. It adds a rich, toffee flavor to the cookies that you don't get from creaming and creates a smooth, melt-in-your-mouth texture.

The best cookies ever! I've been trying to find "the perfect cookie recipe" for many years; I've tried a lot of recepies without getting the "perfect" results... but with certainty I can tell you this are the best cookies I've ever made, the recipe is easy and the results are great! Thank you for sharing this recipe.
These cookies are surprisingly delicious! My children love them. My husband is in love with them. They are ooey gooey delicious. I believe if weren't married already...well you know the rest : The oats provide density and balance so don't leave the oats out. They were perfect.
These are THE BEST COOKIES I have ever made! The recipe is simple and easy to follow, and I love the new and interesting preparation process. You are never bored in the kitchen when you make these cookies.
It is a fun and delicious recipe. If you follow the directions properly, the cookies turn out perfectly every time. The cookies are sweet, rich, chocolate-ty, delectable and absolutely divine! The end result?... Well, my husband will attest that having these cookies in our home makes us want to marry each other over, and over again!
"I Want To Marry You Cookies" are the best cookies - EVER!!! Especially straight out of the oven. This recipe is heaven-sent!
I made this recipe according to the directions and found it to be really sweet. Kids will probably like it as-is, but many adults would find it too sweet. Some observations that may help others who want to make the recipe:
You will need 2 cookie sheets (12 cookies per sheet I used old-fashioned oats but I think they would have been better with quick-cooking oats. There is so much butter in them you don't need to grease the cookie sheets. To achieve 24 balls you need about 2 tbs of dough per "ball". The baked cookies spread to about twice the width of the dough balls
These cookies were so easy to make. I like that you don't have to use a mixer. I've been baking chocolate chip cookies for years and years and the secret to them not spreading is to freeze the formed dough before baking. It works with this recipe too. Once you've formed the dough balls from the cooled dough put the pan in the freezer for at least an hour. I put all 24 on one pan then after they were well chilled I transfered to another cookie sheet to bake a dozen at a time. You will have to bake a little longer. I baked mine 18 to 20 minutes. They will look sooo pretty. Not flat and spread out.
I've made these cookies twice, the first time with semi sweet and white chocolate chips and the second time with milk chocolate and heath chips. My Mom who hated chocolate chips cooking loved these, and I even gave her the recipe.
I increased the cooking time to 16 minutes (but that is going to depend on your oven and I chilled them for an hour.
Yum Yum!
These cookies were fantastic and super easy to make! The only ingredient change I made was reducing the brown sugar to 1 cup - they were perfectly sweet. I also allowed the dough to chill for a couple of hours before rolling into balls, and I baked the cookies for about 15 mins. Kids and adults both loved these - will definitely make again.
I have been baking for 40 years and these are the WORST cookies I have ever made/tasted. threw the entire batch in the trash. I have no idea how this got rave reviews from people. They are sickeningly sweet with an awful texture. What a waste of time and money.
Very good flavor, but I'm not in love with the texture. I've made them twice now and both times they've spread too much. However, I tested one tray longer in the fridge, and they did better. So I recommend to chill the cookie balls for an hour or two before baking. That said, they were still a huge hit at the party, even though they were really flat. Will make again!!
These are great! My boyfriend & kids loves these. These are now my favorite cookies to make.
My homemade cookies never turn out but these were awesome!
Good variation on a chocolate chip cookie. Very sweet though - if you can handle a lot of sweetness this is for you!
A delicious cookie that turns out great every time! My kids love them. My 14 year old said "If you were closer in age, and you were not my mom....I just might marry you". Thanks for a new keeper recipe.
Delicious! I made these for my husband and now he ask for them all the time. I didn't have dark brown sugar so I used light but they still came out fabulous!
Absolutely divine! I loved them and so did everyone that I shared them with. Can't wait to make them again.
These are hands-down the best chocolate chip cookies I have ever tasted! I have made them several times now and they are always a huge hit.
This is absolutely my favorite cookie recipe! I love the toffee-like flavor and sometimes just make it without the chocolate chips. My husband loves nuts, so sometimes I will add pecans or walnuts....delicious! One thing I learned...the recipe says to melt the butter on medium heat, slowly, and there is good reason for that. The slow melt browns the butter a little and that is what gives it the toffee flavor. My mouth is watering just thinking about these cookies. I may have to go whip up a batch.
Very good! I made these and they were eaten in an hour now im left with my bbq!
Yummy!Yummy, Best Recipe ever!!!
Followed the recipe exactly and they turned out perfect. Used a scoop & this gave me 24 uniform and beautiful looking cookies. Melissa, if I wasn't already married, you would be on my call list. Thanks for sharing.
Delicious!! These are a huge hit! I played with the flavor of chips as I have made them 4x now... actually, LOVE all choc chips. I skipped the cinnamon as I am not a huge fan..didn't seem to matter.
BEST COOKIES EVER!!! I will never use another recipe again. I did bake them a couple min longer but I think ever oven is different so just keep an eye on them and they will be perfect. Thank you for sharing your recipe with all of us.
Baking time is listed @ 325 degrees for 12--14 minutes. Cookies weren't nearly done--still seemed to be doughy even at 20 minutes--then were dry. I'm wondering about the baking temperature and time for baking. Still very good cookies.
Awesome cookies!! I gave them out to a few friends for Valentine's Day and some people thought they were from a bakery : They are sooooo delicious. My mother in law is very picky and loved these so much. That is my to go recipe from now on.
I made these last night. They we so delicious, I used peanut butter chips instead white chips. They are so easy to, all in one pot.
Omgeee just made these cookies. One batch with m&ms with chocolate chips and another one with coconut flakes and walnuts. Kids loved them. Soooo moist thanks for this recipe staying with us.
Wish I had this recipe when My boyfriend became My fiance.Only problem?I couldn't bake/cook yet!Boy, can I now, Divine.
You are brilliant! I'm usually too tired/lazy to get out my mixer for cookies so this is such a SMART solution! Thank you... I look forward to making them very soon.
These cookies were so good! I used peanut butter chips and semi sweet chips and they were amazing. The only problem I had was that the cookies spread more than I anticipated, even after 30 min of chilling. Perhaps I just needed to chill them more, or add more oats. But they were very tasty and the friends I made them for loved them!
For catdwg83, the recipe does not call for boiling the butter and sugar, simply to melt, incorporate the sugars, then remove from heat. These cookies were a big hit in my house. I used cinnamon chips and chocolate chips....very yummy. I am going to try with other flavor chips also.
The key with these cookies is to let them chill long enough that the butters start to solidify again. After you melt the butter and sugars, chill in the fridge long enough to reach room temperature - about 10 minutes or longer. If I am really craving cookies fast and have zero patience, I put the pan in the freezer to expedite the cooling process. You want it to be cool enough before you add the eggs.
After you remove it from the fridge, give it a little stir to combine those sugars and butter again. The separation is normal and you can dip your clean finger in to ensure the dough is at room temp. It should be a rich, brown color and smell heavenly. If your chips are melting, it is sign that that the dough is too warm. I am glad that you enjoyed the flavor of the cookies and hopefully these tips will help with your next batch. Thanks for trying!
I'm pretty sure I did something wrong. How long are you supposed to boil the butter & sugar? I let it come to a boil (over med heat and continuously whisked gently for about 5 min. When I got it from the fridge after 10 min, it was still hot and the butter oil had separated from the sugar at the bottom. Maybe the pan wasn't large enough to cool it properly? Then the dough was still so warm by the time the chocolate was added that it melted all of it. There are only white & brown swirls, no chips. Should I cool it longer next time or use a bigger pan? Despite this, the flavor was amazing. Will definitely try again.
This is an unbelievable cookie. The combination and flavor and texture and appearance doesn't get any better than this one. 5 Stars in my book.
