Ingredients

  • Plain pasty:
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. lard
  • 6 or 7 tbls cold water
  • Filling:
  • 1 lb. hamburger or stew meat
  • 4 med. potatoes cubed
  • 2 or 3 carrots
  • medium onion
  • small rutabaga
  • little piece of suet
  • pinch salt and pepper

Preparation

Step 1

For pastry:
Cut lard into flour and salt. Add water. Form into balls while preparing filling.

For filling:
Mix all ingredients well. Roll dough 1/4 at a time into 8' circles. Place filling on half of circle; dot with butter, sprinkle 1/2tsp. water. Fold pastry over filling, seal tightly. Cut 2-3 slits on top and bake at 425 for 50-60 minutes. Makes large pasties. Can be frozen unbaked and baked without thawing.
