Ingredients
- DOUGH
- 1- 1/2 cups Warm H2O
- 2 Tbs Butter - soften
- 1/2 cup Honey
- 2 cups Bread Flour
- 1- 2/3 cups Wheat Flour
- 1 Tbs Cocoa
- 1 Tbs Granulated Sugar
- 1 tsp Instant Coffee
- 1 tsp Salt
- 2- 1/4 tsp Yeast (1 pkg.) COLORING COLORING
- 1/4 cup H2O
- 75 drops Red Food Coloring
- 45 drops Blue Food Coloring
- 30 drops Yellow Food Coloring
- Cornmeal for dusting
Preparation
Step 1
1 BREAD MACHINE: add all ingredients for the dough in the exact order listed, into the pan of your machine. Set it on “knead” & when the machine begins to mix the dough, combine the food coloring w/ 1/4 cup of H2O & drizzle it into the mixture as it combines. After the dough is created let it rest to rise for an hour or so. The remove it from the pan & go to step #3.
2 NO BREAD MACHINE: Combine the Flours, Coca, Sugar, Coffee & Salt in Lrg. bowl. Make a depression or “well” in the middle of the dry mixture. Pour the warm H2O into the ‘well’, then add the Butter, Honey, & Yeast. Combine the food coloring drops w/ 1/4 cup of H2O & add to ‘well’. Slowly mix the ingredients w/ a spoon, drawing the dry ingredients into the wet. When you can handle to dough, begin to combine it by hand, kneading the dough thoroughly for a least 10 mins., until it is very smooth & has a consistent color. Set the dough into a covered bowl in a warm place for an hour, to allow it to rise.
3 When the dough has risen to about Dbl in size, punch it down & divide it into 8 even portions. Form the portions into tubular shaped loaves ˜ 8” long & 2” wide. Sprinkle entire surface of the loaves w/ cornmeal & place them on a cookie sheet. Cover the cookie sheet w/ plastic wrap & let the dough rise for another hour.
4 Preheat the oven to 350°. Uncover the dough & bake it for 20- 24 minutes in the hot oven. Loaves should begin to darken slightly on top when done.
