Ingredients
- 4 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 1/2 cup shortening
- 2 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 2 eggs

Preparation

Directions:
Sift together flour, baking soda, and spices.
In a small saucepan, melt shortening.
Let cool to room temperature.
In a large bowl, stir together melted shortening, 2 cups sugar, molasses, and eggs.
Add sifted ingredients; mix well.
Cover and refrigerate overnight.
Preheat oven to 375* F.
Shape dough into 1-inch balls and roll in additional sugar.
Place 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheets.
Bake 6-7 minutes or until crisp and lightly browned.
Immediately flatten each cookie with a spatula.
Let cool completely on wire racks.
