8½-oz can water chestnuts, drained; reserve ½ cup liquid
cup cider vinegar
slices bacon, halved
cup brown sugar
Marinate whole water chestnuts in reserved liquid and vinegar for at least 1 hour. Drain. Spread each half slice of bacon with brown sugar mixed with ketchup. Roll water chestnuts in bacon and fasten with toothpicks. Broil on a rack for 5 minutes or more until crisp. Drain on paper towels. Serve with cocktail picks.
