Burnt Sugar Cake

Ingredients

  • In a fry pan place 1 cup white sugar. Set on stove on medium heat to brown. Stir occasionally until sugar dissolves and is quite brown.
  • Add 1/2 cup water, stir. Set aside to cool.
  • In bowl, beat 2 eggs.
  • Add 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter or margerine
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 cup cold water

Preparation

Step 1

When sugar mixture is cool add one half of it to the cake mixture. Bake in a greased pan at 325F till done (stick a toothpick in, when it comes out clean the cake is cooked). Cool

For icing- mix remaining browned liquid to icing sugar for the topping.
