All-in-One Hearty Ribs and Cabbage

Ingredients

  • 6 pounds beef chuck short ribs
  • 2 (28-ounce) cans crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (12-ounce) can tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 3 cubes beef bouillon
  • 8 cups water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 packed light or dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 of a cabbage, chopped (4 cups)
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Preparation

Step 1

In a soup pot, brown ribs over medium-high heat, turning to brown all sides.

Reduce heat to low and stir in remaining ingredients.

Simmer for 2-1/2 to 3 hours or until meat is tender, stirring frequently.

Notes:
Try serving the short ribs with some prepared white horseradish on the side.
