Old-fashioned GINGERBREAD, just like Great used to make every year ... smells and tastes SO good!

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 egg
- 1 cup molasses
- 2-1/2 cups flour
- 1-1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1-1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1-1/2 tsp ginger
- 1/4 tsp EACH nutmeg AND cloves
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup hot water
- powdered sugar to sprinkle on top

Preheat oven to 350. Grease & flour (or baking spray) a 9” square pan. … In large bowl, cream butter and sugar together; beat in the egg and mix in the molasses. In another bowl, whisk flour, baking soda and spices together ~ blend into creamed mixture. Stir in hot water and mix until blended thoroughly. Pour into prepared pan. … Bake for 45 min to 1 hour (until knife inserted in center comes out clean). Cool in pan and dust with powdered sugar. Cut into squares to serve ~ 12 servings
