This recipe makes a large amount. Great for freezing for later meals or wonderful for a large summer picnic. I make this for our annual 4th of July party instead of hamburgers. It's delicious and allows my husband to be a part of the festivities rather than standing at the grill.

Ingredients

  • 3 lb. ground beef
  • 3 lb. lean chuck roast
  • 1 c. chopped onion
  • 14 oz. ketchup
  • 1 c. water
  • 1/2 c. celery
  • 1/4 c. lemon juice
  • 4 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp salt
  • 1/2 Tbsp worchestire sauce
  • 1/4 tsp dry mustard
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced

Preparation

Step 1

1. Cut roast into 3 - 4 pieces and place in roaster. Break up the raw ground beef and put around roast.

2. In a separate bowl, mix the rest of the ingredients together and then pour over meat mixture.

3. Cook at 300 degrees for 3 hours, stirring occasionally.

4. Remove pieces of roast and tear apart with two forks. Mix pulled roast in with ground beef and sauce. Serve with hamburger buns and cheese (optional).
