Ingredients
- 2/3 c. margarine
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/4 c. water
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 1/4 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. soda
- 1 1/2 c. rolled oats (quick or old fashioned)
Preparation
Step 1
Beat margarine until creamy; beat in sugar gradually. Blend in egg, water and vanilla. Sift together flour, salt and soda. Add to creamed mixture, blended well. Stir in oats. For ease handling, chill dough overnight.
Roll out dough on floured board (I used powdered sugar in place of flour on the board) to 1/8-inch thickness. Cut out with floured heart-shaped cutter. Place on greased cookie sheet. Bake in preheated moderate oven (350 degrees) about 12 minutes or until golden brown (they generally just get light brown.)
When cool, frost with pink icing, or white icing decorated with red sugar.
