Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds stew beef in 1/2" cubes
  • 1 can tomato paste - (6 oz)
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar (or cider)
  • 1/2 cup red wine (or use apple juice)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 4 small garlic cloves
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly-ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon or more to taste
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 tablespoons raisins
  • (other dried fruit could be substituted)
  • 2 whole cloves

Mix all ingredients in the Slow cooker. Cover and cook on LOW 7 to 9 hours.
