Red Cake

Ingredients

• Cake:
• 1/2 cup butter
• 1 1/2 cup sugar
• 2 eggs
• 2 oz red food coloring
• 1 T cocoa
• 1 cup buttermilk
• 1 t salt
• 1 t vanilla
• 2 1/4 cups cake flour
• 1 t baking soda
• 1 t vinegar
• Frosting:
• 3 T flour
• 1 cup milk
• 1 cup sugar
• 1 t vanilla
• 1 cup butter

Preparation

Step 1

Cake:
Cream together butter, sugar and eggs.
Make paste of food coloring and cocoa.
Add paste to creamed mixture.
Then, add alternately buttermilk, salt, vanilla, and cake flour.
Mix together and add baking soda and vinegar.
Bake in 3 - 8" (or 2 - 9") round pans at 350º for 30 minutes.

Frosting:
Cook flour and milk until thick, then cool.
Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
Add vanilla and blend into flour mixture.
Beat well.
