Ingredients
- Cake:
- 1 box of raisins
- 2 cups of water
- 2 cups white sugar
- 2/3 cup shortening
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 cup of cold water
- 1 tsp. baking soda dissolved in a little hot water
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 3 1/2 cups flour
- 1 cup chopped nuts
- Topping:
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- Chopped nuts

Step 1
Cook the raisins in 2 cups of water (covered) for 15 minutes. Remove from heat and combine (including water) with the rest of the cake ingredients in a large bowl. Pour into a angel food cake pan or 2 to 3 loaf pans. Crumble the brown sugar over the batter and cover with the chopped nuts. Press into the batter with the back of a spoon. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour, angel food cake pan and start checking the loaf pans after 30 minutes.
