Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 c. flour
  • 7 T. cocoa
  • 2 t. baking powder
  • 1/4 t. salt
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 1/3 c. melted butter
  • 1 1/2 t. vanilla
  • 1/2 c. packed brown sugar
  • 1 1/4 c. hot water

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Combine 3/4 cup sugar, flour, 3 tablespoons cocoa, baking powder and salt. Blend in milk, melted butter and vanilla; beat until smooth. Pour batter into an 8x8 inch pan.

Combine 1/2 cup sugar, brown sugar and 4 tablespoons cocoa; sprinkle over batter. Pour hot water over the top, but do not stir. Bake for 40 minutes. Let stand for 15 minutes before serving.
