All-American Loaded Burgers

By

I found this recipe almost 8 years ago and tried it for my daughter's first birthday party. I got so many compliments and requests for the recipe, I don't make burgers any other way now! —Marsha Urso, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Ingredients

  • 1 cup dry bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup Italian salad dressing
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 6 kaiser rolls, split
  • Leaf lettuce, Colby cheese slices, tomato slices, ketchup, prepared mustard and Fried Onion Rings or french-fried onions, optional

Preparation

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine the bread crumbs, onion, salad dressing and eggs. Crumble beef over mixture and mix well. Shape into six patties.

Grill burgers, covered, over medium heat or broil 4 in. from heat for 5-7 minutes on each side or until a meat thermometer reads 160° and juices run clear. Serve on rolls with lettuce, cheese, tomato, ketchup, mustard and Fried Onion Rings if desired. Yield: 6 servings.

MY NOTES: Because of the reviews, maybe it would be better to use just one egg.

REVIEWS:

Tasteless and mushy. I threw it out.

The meat was so soft it felt like you were eating mush. I did everything by the recipe I guess I needed more meat although I had 3 lbs.

I followed this recipe to a "T," and found it to be, without a doubt, the WORST possible excuse for a burger! The consistency was more like a meatloaf, however, my meatloaves are far superior to this! There really was no flavor and it wouldn't hold together. The texture was mushy. It was a waste of ingredients, time and effort. Real disappointment.

It sounded okay until you got to the catsup. Why ruin good food recipes with catsup?

This isn't a burger! its a meatloaf!

To Emmy25. The entire point of th erecipe review is to express what you thought of the recipe. It would not be much of a review if everyone felt the exact same way. It is an opinion. I think evarogers22's entry was not rude-just expressing her thoughts which may well differ from yours but doesn't make it wrong.

Excellent burger. A nice delicious twist on a traditional burger. I love variety when it comes to grilling out!

I only wish I could give star ratings to rude reviewers, such as Evarogers...

This was the type of burger I grew up with and I was a teenager before I actually had a real burger...

A good burger when put all together. While cooking the burgers fell apart. Would make again.

These burgers had a great flavor. You do have to really form the patties, grease the grill and carefully turn them during cooking.

I am a mother of 5 children. It's often that we make healthy meals and they shy away. They love this burger. I substituted 1/2 of the ground beef with ground turkey and all 5 of them loved it. It's very savory.

This tasted like meatloaf. That isn't a bad thing but when you want a burger, you want a burger. Also, it is hard to keep the patties together while cooking them. I managed to keep 1 out of 6 from breaking into.
