Almond-Filled Cookie Cake

Ingredients
- Filling:
- 2 2/3 cups flour
- 1 1/3 cups sugar
- 1 1/3 cups butter
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 egg
- Filling
- sliced almonds or candied cherries
- 1 cup grated or finely chopped
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tsp. grated lemon peel
- 1 egg, lightly beaten

Preparation
Step 1
In bowl, combine flour, sugar, butter, salt and egg. Blend at low speed until dough forms. Divide dough in half and chill.
Spread half of dough in bottom of greased 10 in springform pan. Combine filling ingredients and spread over 1st dough layer. Press remaining dough between 2 layers of wax paper and press to form 10 in circle. Remove top layer of wax paper and flop dough over filling. Press dough to edges. Garnish with almonds or cherries.
Bake at 325 for 45 to 55 min or until golden brown. Remove from oven and cool 15 min. Remove sides of springform pan.
