Mile High Apple Pie


My mom adapted this from the Star of Texas cookbook.

  • 6 large tart apples, peeled and sliced
  • 9 in. unbaked pie crust
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 + tsp. cinnamon
  • 3/4 c. flour
  • 3/4 c. butter



Step 1

Preheat oven to 425. Press crust into pie dish. Arrange apples in crust. Mix 1/2 c. of sugar with cinnamon and sprinkle over apples. Mix remaining 1/2 c. sugar with flour. Cut in butter with a pastry cutter until crumbly. Top pie with crumbles. Bake at 425 for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 and continue to bake for 30-40 minutes more.
