PC Apple Upside Down Cake

- 4 T butter
- 4 granny smith apples
- 1/2 c nuts
- 1/2 c sugar
- 1 box yellow cake mix
- 1/4 c apple cider
- 1/2 c nuts
- 6 T butter
- 1/2 c apple cider
- 1 egg

Step 1
Heat oven to 375 degrees. Place butter, sugar, and 1/4c apple cider in the family skillet over medium heat. Bring to a slight boil around 10 minutes. Remove from heat. Use the apple, peeler, corer, slicer on apples. Arrange the apples in the pan over the caramel mixture. Place the skillet over medium high heat. Boil about 10 minutes, until the sugar mixture becomes caramel colored. Remove from heat. Rearrange apples if necessary to make a pretty design. Caorsely chop 1/2c nuts and sprinkle over apples. In classic batter bowl with pastry blender cut into cake mix the 6T butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Chop finely 1/2c nuts into cake mix. Add 1/2c apple cider and egg. Stir until mixture is just moistened (batter will be thick). Spoon batter over apple mixture. Bake 35-40 minutes. Cool 10 minutes in pan (no longer) Invert onto serving platter. Serve with cool whip or ice cream if desired.
