Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup dark corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup water with an 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 6 T butter or margarine

Step 1

Combine sugar, corn syrup, water and salt in 1 1/2 quart saucepan. With thermometer in place set over low heat. Stir slowly until mixture begins to boil (a wooden spoon is best for the job). Cook without stirring until 250 degrees and then add butter or margarine and cook to 300 degrees stirring occasionally. Without stirring, quickly spoon syrup onto greased baking sheets (2 T for each makes a good size). Insert stick, work fast. Make faces before it hardens. Wait for awhile then remove and transfer to waxed paper to cool. (Use a spatula to lift the suckers off the pan otherwise if you pick then up by the stick they will break in half).
