Apple Pie with Crumble Topping

Ingredients

  • 1 recipe Pastry pie crust
  • 6-8 tart apples, peeled, cored, and sliced thin
  • 2/3 C. granulated sugar
  • 1 C. + 1 T. flour
  • 1 t. ground cinnamon
  • 2/3 C. dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 C. butter

Preparation

Step 1

Line a 9 inch pie pan with pastry; crimp edges. Combine apples, granulated sugar, 1 T. flour, cinnamon and spread mixture evenly in pastry. Combine brown sugar and 1 C. flour and cut in butter with a pastry blender until the consistency of small peas. Spread mixture over apples. Bake in a 450 degree oven for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake 25 minutes longer. If a browner topping is preffered, bake 10 minutes longer. Serve with half whipped cream or softened and whipped vanilla ice cream.

Can add 1/2 C. chopped walnuts to the crumble mixture.
