Peppermint Hot Chocolate

By

Warm up with a steaming mug of minty hot chocolate. Make your own heart marshmallows with a pair of clean kitchen scissors; start by cutting half-inch slices of marshmallow, and shape into hearts using your crafting skills.

  • 4

Ingredients

  • Several large marshmallows
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup hot water
  • 4 cups milk
  • 3 Tbsp chocolate syrup
  • 1/8 tsp peppermint extract
  • Peppermint sticks

Preparation

Step 1

Cut a heart shape out of the marshmallows. Set aside.

In a large saucepan, whisk the sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually stir in the hot water. Whisk very well. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.

Add the milk and chocolate syrup. Reduce heat and cook over low, stirring, until very hot. Don’t let mixture boil. Stir in ⅛ tsp peppermint extract.

Ladle into mugs. Garnish with marshmallow hearts or peppermint sticks.
