Sugar Cookies - for cookie molds or stamps

This recipe is used with cookie molds or cookie stamps.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 egg, large
- 1 tbsp milk or cream
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg or 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 cups flour
Preparation
Step 1
Cream the butter and sugar together by hand until they are fluffy or with a mixer set on the slowest speed. Beat in the egg, then the milk or cream. Add the vanilla at this point if you are using it. Mix the salt and nutmeg into the flour. Mix the flour into the dough. Knead briefly, then chill the dough for at least 20 minutes if you are planning to make molded cookies. You needn't chill the dough if you will be stamping the cookies. Form the cookies as directed for molding or stamping.
Bake at 350 in the top third of your oven for 10 - 12 minutes, or until the edges are nicely browned.
Yield: 16 - 18 stamped cookies or 5 - 8 molded cookies depending on the size of your mold.
