Hungarian Cabbage Rolls

Ingredients

  • 1 head cabbage
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 tsp butter
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb pork
  • 1 cup rice
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 2 cups sauerkraut
  • 2 cups tomato juice

Preparation

Step 1

Core cabbage. (Cut up extra cabbage with sauerkraut)

Boil cabbage 2-3 minutes in salted water.

Saute onion, mix with beef, pork, rice and seasonings.

1 cabbage leaf at a time, remove vein, 2 Tbsp filling in each roll, roll tight, line pan with sauerkraut and leftover cabbage, tomato juice (with water). Add rolls, then cover with kraut and juice.

Bake 2 1/2 - 3 hours 375 degrees F until rice is done.
